Merry Christmas

When y'all read this it'll be Christmas Day. Hope y'all have a wonderful day with your family. Let's take a day to remember what Christmas is supposed to be about. The birth of Jesus Christ. The son of God who would be crucified at age 32 so forgiveness of our sins. Growing up Christmas was about Christ and family. The people we are bonded to by blood and sometimes by choice. I have warm memories of Christmas dinner. My mom and I made fudge which would be a gift. Pies for Christmas. A ham in the oven, mashed potatoes, corn, green bean casserole and  my aunt would bring rolls with a relish tray. Crackers and cheese alongside chips and dip. I almost forgot deviled eggs. Breakfast was cereal. I wasn't going to fill up and miss out on the feast. I don't remember the gifts. I just don't. I remember sharing a meal with my late aunt and uncle. Every year he would start at Thanksgiving threatening to get me a drumset. I would be disappointed each year until I realiz...

Christmas Eve

What's the meal plan? Did you prepare and freeze something ahead of time? If you ordered something ahead of time I am sure you have paid for it and got the confirmation call. Be sure to leave time so you can pick it up. Oh yeah! Y'all don't forget to check the weather. Keep in mind I'm saying this now because it's so easy to get caught up in the holiday rush. I used to get wrapped up in the rush and forget little details. Now is the time to take one last look around and do some last-minute cleaning. It won't take long. After all, you scrubbed the house from top to bottom three weeks ago. Now it's just picking up the day-to-day stuff. Show Grandma around your kitchen and let her get a lay of the land. Now would be a great time to surprise her with a custom apron. Why is it custom? It has pictures of her grandchildren on it. And her great-grandchildren will be surrounding her this holiday. Christmas Eve and New Years Eve Activities for Kids

Once we have children our lives pretty much revolve around them. While it’s nice to get together with adult members of your family, kids can get into everything …. Y’all know what I am talking about. I covered this back in my pre-Thanksgiving post about activities for kids. Here are some fresh links for activities for kids to do on their own and with adults.  Our first activity which will require adult supervision is a Spinning Christmas Tree. This looks like it would be fun for the science freak in your family to do with kids. Beth does have printables as well.  Beth Gorden https://www.123homeschool4me.com/dancing-science-project_4/ Paper snowflakes! This is always a favorite. I used to do this in elementary school. I am sure a lot of people did. Here is a site that gives directions and patterns you can print off.  Paper Snowflakes https://www.itsalwaysautumn.com/cut-snowflake-video-tutorial-free-templates.html Here’s one last link. While most teens will keep them...

Countdown to Christmas and New Year's Day

Here we go y'all. Countdown to Christmas. Each week we will look at what we can be doing to prepare our homes for Christmas then New Year's Day. Yeah! We are going to cover both. We are going to cover everything just like Thanksgiving. Cleaning and Extra Preparations One week out from Christmas here's what we can do. Time to tackle the guest rooms if you will be having guests. And don't forget your living room, kitchen, and public bathroom.  Meal Planning and Christmas Eve Now is the time to decide what you will do for Christmas Eve. Will you cook a full meal or will you do what most people will? Order out because you are going to be busy on Christmas day. If eating a catered meal is your plan, great. I'm sure if you order now you could get a great deal. Don't forget coupons. Of course, you could take this weekend to meal prep. Yep! Through planning ahead you could get a lot of your cooking done. If you're in charge of side dishes and a...

Cleaning Two weeks out from Christmas here's what we can do. Scrub your home from top to bottom. Seriously! Move furniture and scrub baseboards. Below is a link to a free printable list. I'm giving you this link because there's no signing up for emails and we have that annoying relative who comes into a house looking for the slightest bit of dust. My late Uncle Gary was like that. No, I didn't snap and kill him. His heart gave out under the pressure of his weight. Link: https://thecrazycraftlady.com/holiday-cleaning-checklist/ Menu plan for Christmas. (If you come from a family who doesn't cook or bake now would be a great time to put in your order for Christmas dinner. A lot of stores are going to be selling meal deals accord...

Food Shortages, Again

Here's something to think about. Stores like Walmart are now selling survival foods like Augason Farms packages. They have been selling survival gear for years. It is promoted as "Camping Gear". I suppose that sounds more appealing. You since the media have branded survivalists as crazy. Doomsday preppers was a show on the History channel about ten or so years ago. Most people were reasonable. Preparing for a total financial collapse. Of course, the 'experts' the History channel talked to rated it highly unlikely. You know that the History channel absolutely shared the names of their 'experts'. Not! They never released the names of their so-called experts. The show made preppers look crazy. But that's what it was supposed to do. I don't see those experts laughing now. Do you? The food shortage problem isn't just an American problem. As you'll see in the article from RT, Russians are starting to see shortages. They've not seen shortage...
