In the first part of this chapter, John talks about his home life as a child and in college. Including how he met his wife Ann. His youth was filled with being dominated by his parents.
After facing a possible draft into military service John had undergone extensive tests and interviews with NSA in the sixties, John and his wife Ann both took jobs with the Peace Corps. They had no idea how this would change their lives. But it did. While there John met Einar Greve. After about two years of exchanging letters, Einar offered John a job that would take him to places he had no idea existed.
What these really did was assess countries' viability for economic growth. As well as corrupt politicians. This is common practice for Economic Hit Men. They have to know who is vulnerable to greed and who must be removed. IE Irman Khan. He got in the way so he's out of office. To be honest, he's lucky that's all that happened. Considering these EHM have a tendency to recommend 'permanent' fixes to temporary problems. Think Haiti three years ago or General Sulemani from Iran in January 2020.
