This year I will be putting my
daughter in Virtual School. Back in the spring, her charter school Milestones
Community Charter School closed.
First
for those of you who do not know the full history of public schools and where
they originated, I am going to give you a crash course. A whip lash course. In
the eighteenth century, King Fredrick II (Fredrick the Great), had certain
ideas what education should be. It should teach complete obedience, so he approved
a curriculum of compulsory education, which did exactly that. (Wikipedia, n.d.) This way of teaching did away with critical
thinking completely. The kids where taught that state came first than
family. The indoctrination accomplished
the goal King Fredrick’s father had issues with soldiers who left post during a
war because of critical thinking. Compulsory education got read of that, by the
time their next war rolled around and wouldn’t you know, none of the soldiers
thought only about the “mission” and “state”.
Than Horace Mann went to Prussia (known as Germany) to check this out.
Came back and implemented this theory. This brings us to the public school
disaster that we now have.
After watching
videos on Youtube.com by former teachers, I have come to the realization that
public schools are breeding grounds for indoctrination, just as the schools in
Prussia did. In addition, those schools where very effective. Effective to the
point that when Hitler came around with all his bullshit, the Germans just
bought without question. After all the government is looking out for them. That
is what they were told for over twenty years at that point. Sound familiar?
After
much consideration and critical thinking. I decided this was the best for her. She, like
myself, has ADHD, making it difficult to focus in a classroom setting. Twenty
minutes of actual instructions simply isn’t enough. Then you have the exterior
distractions. Get your notebooks out to take notes and some kid’s phone buzzing
or ringing. After about twenty minutes, a bell rings and the herding to the
next class begins again. In addition, repeat several times a day. Any questions
you have must be submitted via e-mail. In addition, maybe you will get an
answer in time for the test.
This
is insanity. When you have ADHD, jumping from class to class is hard enough to
do in a timely manner. Then add stress of knowing you only have a set time with
a teacher and no questions to will be answered in the classroom. Some little asshole
in the back will make trouble and rob students of teaching time. What? Now roughly thousands of years after King
Fredrick II and Horace Mann created the current system we have. Thank you for
nothing. Our kids are learning a curriculum that has been dumbed down; to the
point, an untrained dog could do it. In addition, do not try to think
critically or do anything on pen and paper. The government wants our kids be so
dumb that they cannot do anything without a computer. The end of year test is a
joke. If the kids, who parents are contributor to politicians, cannot pass the
test, the passing grade will be lowered.
