Have you been to the store lately? If not, take your barf bag with you because you’re going to need it. We went Saturday to Walmart and loaded up on beans that we will eat in the place of meat. First of all, we aren’t going Vegan. This is us trying to figure out how to have a fully rounded meal without breaking the bank. We got four twelve-packs of beans with each can costing $0.62 each. The mushrooms I got were $0.92 each they were not store brand. They are Pennsylvania Dutchmen. Kind of a high-end brand. That same four-ounce can will be about $2.29 at Kroger. We also purchased some seitan for $4.39 and tempeh for $3.99 to use in the place of meat at less than the cost of meat. We also purchased extra firm tofu for $1.89 per box and we got four. I plan on getting four more. You can’t buy meat for $1.89 per pound. I didn’t get the Kroger brand of kielbasa smoked because it’s damn good.
With the cost of meat going up we are all going to be forced to consider alternatives. Let’s find them together instead of out there by ourselves. What are you doing to balance the rising cost of meat as your protein source? How far are you willing to push back against these bastards for jacking up the prices?
