Romans 12: 1-2 makes it clear that we are to be in the world, but not of it. This is hard and I have fallen for the more stuff trap myself. I recently bought a cast iron pot not that I really needed it right now but because of the opportunity presented itself. However, I will be using it in Scratch Kitchen videos along with a stand-alone burner set which I plan on getting so I can do videos with better lighting. I looked at the burners and they didn't have great reviews from people who bought them. I will be getting lightbulbs and moving a floor lap in the kitchen.
You see how easy that was right. I bought a cast iron pot which I could really use and then justified the purchase of stand-alone burners. So often we have a cell that works just fine. It does all the task we need it to do except training our Pomeranian not bark so much. But the new Android is so much better, except that one task we need to do personally, it can't do like train the Pom not to bark so much. Today I got a text from Boost offering to let pay a dollar down on the newest Android and low monthly payments. My heart skipped a couple beats and then I realized I was getting consumed by the stuff mentality. My Android I bout less than a year ago works great. For over a hundred dollars it had better work beyond great.
I started watching Homestead Tessie about a year ago. She uses to have every luxury life could offer her. Then she became very ill and had surgery. After surviving what should have been a life-ending illness, she and her husband sold everything they had and paid off their debts. Bought a small run-down property and fixed it up as they could afford to do so. She has made it clear that they are happier now with less stuff then they were with all the luxuries they could afford.
They stopped being consumed by the world of stuff and gained happiness. We haven't bought a brand new television in years until I had to two years ago. The tv in the leaving room is almost seven years old. It works so we will keep it until we have to move the tv in the bedroom out to the living room and set the unused tv up in the bedroom. We haven't had cable or satellite in four years and I don't miss the high bill. I find plenty to watch online. Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube along with various apps have plenty to choose from. There is no end to our DVD collection.
Let's all look around us and see what there is we have and we either don't need or rarely ever use. Then decide do we really need it. We did this after we moved to Michigan from Florida not once but three times. I keep what we really needed and we got rid of what we didn't. Slow down, we donated the things we didn't need. I also gave stuff to people who live around me directly.
