Today we did our weekly haul to fill in what we have used and what was needed to build meals for the week. I think Antonia is starting to understand how quick money can go when you are buying for two people and a pet. We got cat litter and wet food for Trixie. Sarge struck out this week. We will get him something special next week.
So our haul consisted of two bags of Fuji apples, the Kroger Organic brand. A large bag of cheese because we love cheese and it is a staple in our meals. We got a special on Taco Bell cheeses, after trying the regular bag, I don't think I'll buy it again. Butter, this is one part of the holy foursome for any Southern cook. The other three is; sour cream, mayo, and cheese. With this foursome, you can make anything.
Chicken: two raw and one box from the deli, with half fried and the other half baked. I got two Heritage Farms chickens on sale. One was $4.05 and the other was $3.96. Awesome! I will be making a rotisserie chicken in my air fryer which is everything under the sun. Seriously, these convection ovens being marketed as air fryers are basically convection ovens. This one will even dehydrate as well.
Watermelon. Okay, we overpaid on the melon because I don't think our utility cart could have got it home with the cat litter as well. Quinoa is something Antonia wants to try out. I am sure whatever she does will be good. We got fresh oven-roasted turkey as our cold cuts for the week. We also got two bags of frozen fruit: pineapple and mango. They were 2/$7. We will eat them in a week.
I picked up snack items which we didn't need and put us over budget. They got put in the go back basket. The fruit we need and the chips with candy we don't. I am proud of Antonia. I gave her the decision and she made the right one. Of course, I don't she'll let me go through the store by myself again with her money replenishing our groceries.
Yes! I did a video on this haul which I haven't done in a long time. Also, I am launching a new channel called Scratch Kitchen. It is going to be dedicated to cooking as much as possible from scratch. No beef helpers here... No frozen meals either. It will be cooking like our ancestors did. Tomorrow I am doing an introduction video and I will post it here as well. This second channel won't be replacing my main channel Anarchy Land. Anarchy Land means a lot to me. It's where I can put my analysis on world events and try to get people talking to each other again.
Scratch Kitchen will be about helping those who want to learn to really cook healthy food for their families without preservatives and additives. It will be helping people start canning who want to but aren't sure where to start. I will give you links to folks that I have learned from and books I use to research information along with links. Understand this, I am not a pro. I have been doing this for a year and I still make mistakes. I don't use the USDA guide book. I don't even own one nor will I.
