Food Shortages and How England is Managing It Shortages are limited choices. Famines are nothing available.
Tomorrow we start getting Antonia’s stuff for her to do virtual school. So let’s talk about the Pandemic EBT/SNAP relief funds right quick. Donald Trump has actually done something that will actually help the average family. He renewed the Family First Act which gave families with SNAP/EBT cards extra funds. That is going to help the 34 million people with kids who are now out of work with no possibility of returning to that job ever again.
With all the chaos I came across an article on the Amish canning tradition. Yeah! We have been hearing nothing but negative articles about the Amish. Now here is an article about their tradition on canning and how they pass the knowledge on for free. They are horrible! Passing on traditions for free… WTF! The truth is they have never stopped living by their traditional lifestyle. Canning is a joy to do, it can be a lot of work. When you open up that can of soup in the winter you canned, there is nothing better. We don’t can soup so much as we prefer to have individual ingredients to make soups as we want them. Chinese farmers are hoarding wheat in hopes that a shortage will yield better prices. I can’t wait to see how well that goes over with the government. NOT! Not at all. Anyway, on the other side of the world, England is taking steps to prevent panic buying. How about don’t scare the piss out of people! There is a great idea. Like America, there was a surge of panic buying of merchandise back in the spring. Let’s remember something here, England is an island in the northern Atlantic Ocean and just south of the Arctic. Which means they have to have everything shipped via ocean liners to them. Kind of link Little Diomede Island in Alaska. Panic buying can wipe out a store in hours if all their citizens go at once to stockpile. Again, pick up a little something extra each week. DON’T CLEAR THE SHELF! That is rude and it could get you into trouble with other shoppers. Take a variety of products on sale to put back. References: Hargrove, A.
