Over the last 16 years, we have seen numerous people become whistleblowers because they felt complied to do so. Usually, it will be someone who has seen some injustice. So, they speak up about it. You would think they would get a thank you. NO! They get persecuted, dragged across the coals, and/or fired. Look at James Demore. The young man who pointed out to Google that they weren't following their own policies on the pay between men and women.
He did a whole memo about this and he offered solutions. He got fired. This is only one story. Oh, buy the way... He is now suing Google. I hope he wins. Another situation was William Cooper. He shared information he'd learned about how things in the government really work. He didn't keep it to himself. No... He shared the information until the day he was murdered.
Lastly, we have Edward Snowdon. He found out that the National Security Agency (NSA) was gathering information on us the citizens. He brought this to our attention. Did we thank him? No! He was called a traitor and ran out of the country. He now lives in Russia.
Without a doubt, we don't treat whistleblowers well. All the way back to Deep Throat with the whole Richard Nixon deal too Edward Snowdon. When we should thank whistleblowers we don't. Yet, we are willing to ignore spies while we scream at people like Senator Joesph McCarthy. He enforced the law that the Truman Administration put into place. As he was putting these laws into place he was surrounding himself with Communist that he was trying to have run out of the country with pitchforks.
Now we have to look at why do we encourage people to blow the whistle in the first place? It's dealing with someone with a split personality. Come out and you'll be protected one minute. The next they are being screamed at. I guess when you get down to it we don't want the know things aren't as okay as we want them to be. We want to know things are in order and the world will continue to rotate safely. However, when we find out someone isn't whom they led us to believe, look out.
