This story is by Betty Warne, of Pierre North Dakota. Betty grew up in a small town at a time where cash wasn’t always available. However, if you have something someone else wants, you can barter. The story is on page 141.
In this story, Mrs. Warne talks about a little theater in her home town which burned tires for heat. If you had a tire you brought to the theater, you got a ticket to a manatee. This story reminds me of how people use to work with each other. You have something I want and I have something you want. We switch and everyone is happy. It makes me wonder why people are so greedy and selfish.
